Qualifications

Julian is accredited in family, civil & commercial, community and Workplace mediation. He also acts as a supervisor for newly qualified family mediators.

This extensive experience of conflict resolution in highly emotive and contentious areas makes him particularly well suited to mediate disputes where there is a significant ‘human’ element but he is equally experienced and willing to mediate other disputes too. 

With a sharp, commercially analytical mind, he is a first class communicator, linguist and natural problem solver. He brings a broad life and work experience, humour, insight, psychological and legal awareness together to help parties focus and find workable solutions.

Perceptive, empathetic and quick to build trust, he is experienced in negotiating the terrain of power imbalances and cultural and linguistic divisions and his experience across all mediation practices also allow him to adapt the mediation process to best suit the parties.

Mediation Panel Memberships

Julian was the head of mediation at Greens Family Mediation and formerly a Partner of SALM Mediation, a director of of Berkeley Square Mediation, a Family Mediator with Lupus Mediation as well as The Mediation Centre.

He is also a panel member of Clerksroom, Talk Mediation, LawWorks, the Association of Northern Mediators, EDSL, CALM Mediation and a member of The Family Mediators Association.

Mediation Experience

Accredited as a Civil and Commercial mediator in 2007 and Family, Workplace and Community mediator in 2010, to date he has conducted well over 1,000 Civil and Commercial, Family, Community and Workplace mediations the vast majority of which have resulted in settlement or partial settlement. Julian holds Professional Indemnity Insurance for cases up to £3M.

Mediation Training

Julian has also taught mediation, most recently at St David’s School in Llandudno, Talk Mediation and Garden Court Chambers in Lincoln’s Inn.

Aside from mediation, Julian has worked in property management for over a decade and has more than twenty years-experience of working in both public and private sectors in various roles. He formerly acted as a consultant and specialist mediator between Local Authorities and Gypsies and Travellers and was a special advisor to Essex Police on issues of cultural sensitivity to Gypsies and Travellers. Other roles include working with the homeless, as an editor in the energy industry, as a journalist and as a Private Investigator. This eclectic mix gives him a ready understanding of the conflicts people find themselves in, a deeper understanding of the people and characters involved and an ability to communicate with anyone, regardless of background.

Educated at Winchester College followed by a broad university education in Communication, Journalism and Law complemented by self-taught Psychology.
