Mediation in Leeds, on the 7th of May 2024 I mediated a commercial builder dispute in Leeds. The claimants solicitor had asked for one of our Leeds mediators who was not available, so he instructed me instead. The dispute had been going on for over two years and resulted out of a commercial build of a number of luxury flats. A party who will remain unnamed introduced the claimant and defendant to one another. Whose company then fell into administration.
Initially the claimant and defendant worked well with one another, but difficulties started to arise due to the claimants health, the defendants project manager and the absence of the introducing party and some misrepresentations they had made.
Initially a £4700 invoice was not paid, which then led to other invoices not being paid. The claimant flagged this with the defendant who promised to make payment, and was just having cash flow problems. The defendant did ask for some minor snagging work to be completed, which it was.

Our mediation service was suggested and agreed to, because after two years of chasing his £26,000 invoices the claimant had, had enough. During this time the defendant made a number of allegations about the quality of the works and the defects in the same. This frustrated the claimant as none of this was ever mentioned on site, nor towards the completion of works.
The defendant claimed showers were leaking, sewage pipes had burst amongst other issues.
